When: Weds., July 18, 2018

Time: 10:00AM - 4:00PM

Where: Teledyne LeCroy
27007 Hills Tech Court
Farmington Hills, MI 48331

Description:
Part 1
Learn about the AC utility supply voltages and ratings, and what is meant by Volts, Amps, RMS, true RMS, Watts, VAs, VARs, power factor and phase angle, delta and wye three-phase electrical systems, and their measurement challenges.

We will discuss how an oscilloscope can be used to calculate these various values, the measurement methodologies used with digitally sampled data, and what applies to sinewave signals that doesn't apply to pulse-width modulated (PWM) inverter/drive output signals.

Part 2
Learn about the types of power semiconductors used in bridges and drives, and how they create pulse-width modulated (PWM) outputs in a variety of different single-device, half-bridge, full-bridge (H-bridge) and Cascaded H-bridge topologies.

We will discuss how power flows can be precisely controlled using a variety of different control schemes, and what the essential elements of a complete embedded control and drive system are.

Part 3
Learn about how motor drives are used to provide precise control of motors and about the measurement challenges in debugging a complete motor drive embedded control and power system.

Understand the tools and methodologies for measuring static (steady-state) motor and drive performance and the advantages of a single tool for complete dynamic system performance integrating electrical and mechanical power measurements, inverter subsection, and embedded control system measurements.
