Abstract:
Probes are the interface between the oscilloscope and your device under test. They can sometimes degrade your system’s signals. Understanding what the probe-cable-scope is doing will help you avoid some common artifacts, and select the right probe for your application.

Join us for this webinar where Eric will introduce a general approach of understanding the DUT, the probe, the cable and the oscilloscope so you can routinely take more reliable measurements. We will address many of the common questions engineers have, such as:
  • Not sure what is real and what is an artifact in your scope measurements?
  • When is it a good idea to use a 10x probe? And how to they really work, anyway?
  • Why is tip inductance an issue and when do I need to worry about it?
  • How does the source impedance of the DUT influence what I measure and how could I measure it anyway?
  • How do I know if I am seeing a real signal or rf pick up?
  • When do I use 50 Ohm scope termination and when can I get away with 1 M input?
  • What if my signal bandwidth is higher than 500 MHz? How do I measure the signal without loading down the DUT circuit?
  • What probing approach should I use for signals in the 1 GHz to 8 GHz range?
