Embedded system control busses enable communication between sensors, actuators, devices, etc. using well defined protocols. These protocols are deployed using electrical, optical, or wireless signaling. As the amount of data being transferred is rapidly increasing, control busses are evolving to meet the new demands.

In this class you will learn how to use an oscilloscope to trigger, decode and confirm the PHY-Layer signal integrity of embedded serial data buses.  This information will help you understand what they tell us about the embedded system operation.

We will review I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, CAN FD, LIN, BroadR-Reach - Automotive Ethernet, and SENT. We will include details on measurement of signal faults, bus loads for specific nodes, gateway timing, locating error frames, symbolic decoding, extracting and plotting embedded traffic, jitter analysis and advanced techniques for finding anomalies.  This will be a workshop with hands on time to apply what you have learned.
