Time: 9:00AM - 5:00PM (Including Lunch)

Where: Teledyne LeCroy

Training Outline:
This workshop provides visibility into the structure and analysis of the USB 2.0 protocol. Participants will be given an introduction to the fundamentals of the USB 2.0 protocol, and the theory will be backed up by a series of hands-on labs.

Each participant will use their Mercury T2 to capture and analyze USB traffic from a series of USB devices provided to each attendee. USB devices covered include: USB hubs, audio devices, human interface devices and mass storage. Participants will also be shown how to identify common issues encountered with USB and how to measure and interpret bus utilization and throughput. Additionally, USB Sig compliance testing of USB devices will be examined to expose students to the certification process and detection of non-compliant devices.

All aspects of USB2 from the physical interface, through enumeration and operation of class specific function will be covered. Additionally, the key differences introduced in the USB 3.1 specification to USB 2.0 will be touched on to ensure the students understand where the specification diverge.

Newer USB specifications which can also impact a USB2 system will also be discussed. Specifically, the Type-C™ Cable and Connector Specification and how to use with USB2 systems. The Power Delivery (PD) extension to the USB specification will also be referenced during the course. In the hands-on section will use their laptops to capture traces using their Mercury Analyzers or other Teledyne LeCroy USB analyzers.

All participants will receive a Teledyne LeCroy Mercury T2 USB2.0 analyzer, which will be used to support the labs. Options to upgrade to the Mercury T2 Advanced, Mercury T2C and Mercury T2C with Power Delivery are all available when ordering online. If you would like to replace the Mercury T2 with a USB3.1 (Gen1 or Gen2) capable analyzer please get in touch and we can discuss options.

Objectives:
To provide participants with a working knowledge of USB through a mixture of theory and practical labs. Participants will capture USB 2.0 traffic using a Teledyne LeCroy USB protocol analyzer and will be taught how to interpret the captured data packets by using the industry leading USB protocol suite. Provide an introduction to the USB 3.1 Gen1 & Gen2 standards, USB Power Delivery and the Type-C™ Cable and Connector Specification.

Who should attend:
  • Hardware and software engineers, system integrators and technical support service engineers who are using or are looking to use the USB2.0 or 3.1 Interface.
  • The course is suitable for: hardware engineers | software engineers | Test engineers
  • Students are encouraged to bring their own laptops to the course with the application software pre-installed so they can take traces on their own setup.
  • Students will receive a certificate recognizing their completion of this module via a short quiz at the end of the session.

Cost: $600 pp – Full day course with Certificate
