During the presentation we initially discuss the fundamentals of the Automotive Ethernet physical layer according to the Open Alliance (OA) and IEEE specifications and the compliance testing for the 100Base-T1 and 1000Base-T1 standards.
In particular we will focus on reflection measurements called MDI return loss and MDI mode conversion loss.
We will review the basic concepts of the S-parameters and their meaning in single ended and mixed-mode form with particular reference to the single balanced twisted pair.
Finally, the MDI return loss and MDI mode conversion loss compliance test will be performed using the automated QualiPHY compliance manager software controlling the WavePulser40 iX high-speed interconnect analyzer.
This measurement system not only simplifies the test, but also permanently avoids the pitfalls that a designer might encounter during development and test execution.
