How to Use an Oscilloscope to Demodulate PWM Signals in Single and Three-phase Power Conversion Designs

Pulse-width modulation (PWM) is the foundation for controlling voltage and frequency outputs of digital power conversion devices. Viewing the modulation envelopes of the PWM voltage outputs of your design provides insight into whether your control circuit is operating correctly. This analysis is straightforward for simple single-phase Line-Reference PWM voltages but gets more complicated with Line-Line voltage probing in 3-phase systems.

Join Teledyne LeCroy to learn more about how to use any oscilloscope to perform this analysis.

Topics to be covered in this webinar:

  • Basic PWM theory and operation
  • What is overmodulation and why is it used?
  • Simple Line-Reference PWM voltage de-modulation
  • Complex Line-Line (3-phase) PWM voltage de-modulation
  • What de-modulation envelopes can tell you about control system behavior

Who should attend? Control, Inverter subsection, power section and power system engineers who use oscilloscopes to understand power conversion control system and power section functioning.

What will attendees learn? Gain a better understanding about how to use common oscilloscope math and analytics tools to understand, validate and debug control system PWM signaling.
