Vector Network Analyzers (VNAs) Compared to Other Instruments – What is Best for Your Application?

Vector Network Analyzers (VNAs) are the standard instrument for characterizing the frequency-domain behavior of high-frequency components and networks, including amplifiers, antennas, interconnects, and test fixtures. They provide accurate S-parameter measurements over wide bandwidths but require precise calibration and can introduce significant cost and setup complexity.

In many cases, full VNA capability may not be necessary. Alternative measurement techniques such as TDR/TDT-based time-domain analysis or oscilloscope-based methods with de-embedding can provide sufficient insight with lower cost and faster setup.

Join Teledyne LeCroy to explore when a VNA is essential and when alternative approaches may be a better fit.

Topics to be covered in this webinar:

  • How VNAs work and what they measure
  • VNA calibration requirements
  • Time-domain capabilities (e.g., impedance profiling)
  • Measuring passive vs. active components
  • Alternatives to VNAs

Who should attend? Design engineers who need frequency-domain analysis but find VNAs too expensive, complex, or rely on others for these measurements.

What will attendees learn? When a VNA is truly required or when an alternative solution can deliver comparable results faster, easier, and at lower cost.
