How to Decode USB Power Delivery Messages using an Oscilloscope
Date: Wednesday, November 18, 2026
Time: 11 AM Pacific | 2 PM Eastern
Duration: 60 minutes
USB-C and USB Power Delivery (USB-PD) are widely used for powering and charging today’s electronic devices, making it increasingly important for engineers to understand what is happening during power negotiation and quickly identify communication problems.
In this webinar, we’ll demonstrate how to decode and analyze USB-PD messages using a Teledyne LeCroy oscilloscope. Learn how to trigger on PD messages, decode BMC-encoded communication on the CC lines, visualize Power Data Objects (PDOs), and correlate protocol activity with electrical behavior such as voltage ramps, current changes, and cable behavior.
Topics to be covered in this webinar:
- How USB-PD communication works on the CC1/CC2 lines
- Triggering on USB-PD messages
- Decoding and viewing USB-PD message objects
- Debugging handshake, power negotiation, role-swap, and contract issues
- Practical probing and measurement setups
Whether you’re validating a USB-C power system, verifying a PD controller, or troubleshooting interoperability issues, you’ll learn practical techniques for gaining greater visibility into USB Power Delivery communication.
